Explore roads and trails with the Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 3rd generation, an aluminium gravel bike that is as high-performing as it is versatile. Its Gravel Endurance geometry and full carbon fork offer a stable and comfortable ride over long distances. The SRAM Apex XPLR 1x12-speed drivetrain features an 11-44 tooth cassette suitable for hilly routes, while the Bontrager Paradigm 23 wheels and 42 mm Girona Pro tyres are set up tubeless. Its numerous mounts make it easy to equip for bikepacking and travel.
The Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 3rd generation is aimed at cyclists looking for a bike capable of handling fast-paced rides, long tours, and self-supported trips. Lighter and better equipped than the Checkpoint ALR 4, it features a 12-speed SRAM drivetrain and Tubeless Ready tyres installed with sealant.
Its Bronze Age colourway combines an elegant metallic finish with black components and tan-wall tyres. This shade highlights the modern shapes of the frame while maintaining a sober and high-end aesthetic.
The Alpha 300 Series Aluminium frame offers an excellent balance of stiffness, durability, and weight control. Internal cable routing protects the housing and preserves the bike's clean lines.
The threaded T47 bottom bracket facilitates maintenance, while the UDH universal derailleur hanger simplifies the replacement of this part. The frame uses a 12x142 mm rear thru-axle to enhance stiffness and handling precision.
The Trek Checkpoint full carbon fork helps to filter out vibrations from rough roads and gravel tracks. Its tapered steerer tube improves steering precision on descents and during quick changes of direction.
It has mounts for racks and mudguards. Its 12x100 mm thru-axle ensures proper wheel alignment and stiffness suitable for disc braking.
The Gravel Endurance geometry places the rider in a balanced position, comfortable enough to rack up the miles while maintaining dynamic handling. The wheelbase and chainstays promote stability when the terrain becomes uneven or the bike is carrying luggage.
This position is suitable for both fast rides and long days of touring. The Checkpoint remains manoeuvrable enough for winding tracks and moderately technical sections.
The single-chainring drivetrain is based on SRAM Apex levers and a SRAM Apex XPLR rear derailleur. Its simple operation avoids the hassle of a front derailleur and makes shifting easier on routes that alternate between roads and trails.
The 40-tooth chainring is paired with a SRAM XPLR PG-1231 cassette with an 11-44 tooth range. This combination offers a wide enough range to maintain speed on the flat and tackle climbs, even when the bike is loaded.
The SRAM Apex D1 hydraulic disc brakes offer powerful, progressive, and easy-to-control braking. They ensure a consistent response on descents, on loose tracks, and when conditions become wet.
The 160 mm SRAM Paceline Center Lock discs promote heat dissipation. The frame and fork are compatible with discs up to 180 mm.
The Bontrager Paradigm 23 rims have an internal width of 23 mm, suitable for modern gravel tyres. Their Tubeless Ready construction allows for riding at lower pressures to improve comfort, grip, and traction.
The tubeless setup is already completed with Bontrager TLR sealant. The absence of an inner tube also helps to limit the risk of pinch flats.
The Bontrager Girona Pro tyres in 700x42 mm combine a 60 TPI casing, an aramid bead, and GR puncture protection. Their profile offers a good compromise between efficiency on the road and grip on compact tracks.
The frame accepts tyres up to 50 mm without mudguards. This makes it possible to increase volume and grip for more rugged terrain. With mudguards, the maximum recommended clearance is 42 mm.
The frame and fork have various mounts for panniers, racks, mudguards, bottles, and accessories. The Checkpoint ALR 5 can thus be configured for a quick ride, a day trip, or a multi-day journey.
The total authorised weight limit is 125 kg. This value includes the bike, the rider, luggage, and all installed accessories.
The Bontrager Elite Gravel handlebar offers a shape adapted to changing positions and riding on trails. Its width varies according to the frame size to maintain consistent ergonomics.
The Verse Short Comp saddle and the 27.2 mm seatpost complete an equipment designed for comfort. The Blendr-compatible stem allows for the clean integration of certain Bontrager or Trek computers, lights, and accessories.
