For whom? From the beginner gravel cyclist to the regular rider looking for a versatile bike
The Trek Checkpoint ALR 3 Gen 3 is a gravel bike designed to offer maximum versatility. Tarmac roads, trails, forest tracks or long adventures: its design allows you to easily vary terrains and practices.
It is an excellent entry point into the world of gravel thanks to its simple, robust and easy-to-use equipment, while offering a sufficiently upgradeable base to accompany the cyclist's progression.
The Checkpoint ALR 3 is based on a 300 Series Alpha Aluminium frame. It offers an excellent compromise between robustness, weight and dynamism, particularly suited to versatile gravel riding.
At the front, Trek has opted for a full carbon fork. Lighter, it also contributes to comfort by helping to filter vibrations generated by the irregularities of the road and trails.
Internal cable routing provides a clean finish and better protects the cables from spray and external elements.
The Trek Checkpoint ALR 3 is equipped with a Shimano CUES 10-speed drivetrain with a single 40-tooth chainring at the front.
The single-chainring principle is particularly interesting in gravel: there is no front derailleur to manage, making shifting simpler and more intuitive.
At the rear, the wide 11-48 tooth cassette provides a range of gears suitable for many situations. The small sprockets allow you to maintain speed on fast sections, while the large 48-tooth sprocket makes pedalling easier on climbs and more demanding trails.
Shimano's LINKGLIDE technology is also designed to prioritise the robustness and durability of the drivetrain.
The Checkpoint ALR 3 is fitted with 700 x 42mm Bontrager Girona Pro tyres.
Their wider profile compared to a classic road bike tyre provides more comfort, grip and stability when the terrain becomes uneven.
However, they maintain a sufficiently fast-rolling profile to allow the bike to be efficient on the road and on fast sections.
The frame accepts tyres up to 50mm wide without mudguards, which allows the bike to be upgraded to a configuration even more oriented towards trails and adventure.
The Bontrager Paradigm 23 rims are Tubeless Ready compatible.
Switching to tubeless allows you to remove the inner tubes with a suitable setup. It then becomes possible to ride at lower pressures, which can improve comfort and grip on trails while limiting the risk of pinch flats.
This is a particularly interesting feature for gravel use.
The Checkpoint ALR 3 is equipped with Tektro C550 dual-piston mechanical disc brakes, paired with 160mm rotors.
Disc braking offers good control of the bike when conditions deteriorate and maintains effective braking on trails or in wet weather.
The mechanical operation is also a simple solution to maintain.
The versatility of the Checkpoint is not only based on its ability to ride on different terrains.
Trek has integrated numerous mounting points on the frame and fork, allowing you to install different equipment according to your needs: panniers, racks, mudguards or additional accessories.
This modularity makes it easy to transform the Checkpoint ALR 3 into a bike for long tours and bikepacking, but also into a versatile bike for daily commuting.

The Checkpoint ALR 3 Gen 3 is available in 6 sizes, from XS to XL. Choosing the right size mainly depends on your height and inseam length.
| Size | Rider Height | Inseam |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 143 to 158 cm | 67 to 74 cm |
| S | 158 to 164 cm | 74 to 77 cm |
| M | 164 to 177 cm | 77 to 83 cm |
| ML | 177 to 188 cm | 83 to 88 cm |
| L | 188 to 194 cm | 88 to 91 cm |
| XL | 194 to 203 cm | 91 to 95 cm |
If you are between two sizes, your height should not be the only selection criterion. The length of your legs, torso and arms, your flexibility, and the desired position should also be taken into account.
A smaller size will generally give the feel of a more compact and manoeuvrable bike, while a larger size will offer more space. If in doubt, we recommend seeking advice from a specialist to choose the frame and settings best suited to your body type.
