It is suitable for road racing as well as triathlon, time trials and cyclosportives. Its intermediate profile is more versatile than a very deep or disc wheel when the course includes climbs and changes of pace.
The rim is made of carbon with a unidirectional fibre finish. Its 58mm height reduces aerodynamic drag and helps maintain speed once the wheel is rolling.
Its 28mm external width helps create a smoother transition between the tyre and the rim. This integration improves airflow with modern, wide-section road tyres.
The rim surface features the characteristic dimples of the ABLC SawTooth technology. Their layout helps to control airflow around the wheel to improve its aerodynamic efficiency and stability.

The rim has an internal width of 23mm and uses a Hookless construction, also known as Tubeless Straight Side. The absence of a hook allows for a more uniform wall and a smoother transition between the tyre and the rim.
However, this design requires the exclusive use of a Hookless-compatible Tubeless tyre. Zipp indicates compatibility with ISO/TSS tyres from 28 to 35mm. A compatible tyre can be used with sealant or with an inner tube.
The pressure must never exceed 5 bar or 73 psi, even when the tyre allows for a higher pressure. The compatibility of the model and tyre width must be checked in the official Zipp chart before mounting.
The ZR1 Disc Brake hub was developed in Germany to offer durability and responsiveness. Its six-pawl mechanism offers 66 points of engagement to quickly transmit power during accelerations.
The steel cartridge bearings facilitate maintenance and ensure reliable operation over the miles. The two-cross lacing uses 24 Sapim CX-Sprint spokes combined with Secure-Loc aluminium nipples.
This version is equipped with a Shimano/SRAM Road HG freehub body, particularly suitable for Shimano 11-speed road cassettes. It should not be confused with the version equipped with a SRAM XDR body.
The exact compatibility depends on the cassette used and the possible presence of a spacer. It is therefore recommended to check the cassette manufacturer's instructions before installation.
The hub uses a Center Lock disc mount. This standard facilitates the mounting and dismounting of the disc while ensuring precise positioning on the hub.
The wheel is designed for a frame with a 12 x 142mm rear thru-axle. It is not compatible with frames that directly use a conventional quick release.
