Tackle mountainous routes with the DT Swiss ARC 1400 DICUT DB 38 rear wheel. Its 38 mm carbon rim and low weight of 745 g promote acceleration and changes of pace, while maintaining efficient aerodynamics. The 240 DICUT hub and its Ratchet EXP 36 system ensure reliable and responsive power transmission. Compatible with Tubeless Ready, Center Lock braking, and Shimano Road cassettes, this rear wheel offers an excellent balance between performance, versatility, and weight control.
The DT Swiss ARC 1400 DICUT DB 38 rear is the lightest wheel in the ARC aerodynamic range. It is aimed at cyclists looking for a high-performance carbon wheel for climbs, hilly routes, and races with frequent changes of pace.
Its 38 mm height limits peripheral weight while maintaining a profile high enough to offer an aerodynamic advantage over a traditional low-profile rim. It is therefore a particularly versatile solution for mountains, gran fondos, and road races.
The rim is made from a new carbon composition developed to reduce weight without compromising the stiffness required for competitive use. Its 38 mm profile promotes acceleration and responsiveness when the gradient or pace changes.
This height also helps maintain good speed on rolling sections. The wheel is therefore not limited to climbs: it can accompany the cyclist on complete routes combining ascents, descents, and fast sections.
The ARC range is developed according to DT Swiss's AERO+ approach. This does not focus solely on frontal aerodynamic drag, but seeks a balance between speed, control, and the wheel's behaviour in different conditions.
The 38 mm profile offers less surface area exposed to the wind than a 55, 65, or 85 mm rim. It is therefore easier to control on fast descents and when crosswinds become irregular.
The rim has an internal width of 20 mm. This narrower dimension compared to the 55, 65, and 85 mm versions of the ARC 1400 helps to reduce the wheel's weight.
It remains suitable for modern road tyres and allows for the use of different sections according to the cyclist's preferences. A 28 mm tyre is a particularly coherent choice for combining efficiency, grip, and comfort on uneven roads.
The external width reaches 26 mm. It allows for a relatively smooth transition with a suitable road tyre, in order to limit air turbulence between the tyre and the rim.
Before selecting a tyre section, it is important to check the available clearance in the frame and the compatibility of the chosen model with the internal width of the rim.
The rim uses a Hooked / Crotchet Tubeless TC interface. The presence of hooks allows the use of a compatible tubeless tyre or a traditional tyre with an inner tube.
The 23 mm tubeless rim tape and the aluminium tubeless valve are supplied. To set up without an inner tube, it is necessary to add a compatible Tubeless Ready tyre and sealant.
The wheel is built around the DT Swiss 240 DICUT hub. Renowned for its reliability and low weight, it offers an excellent compromise between performance, durability, and ease of maintenance.
Its DICUT architecture is adapted to the specific head spokes used on the brand's aerodynamic wheels. It promotes precise assembly and helps to limit the frontal surface area of components exposed to the wind.
The Ratchet EXP 36 freehub system uses two toothed rings that distribute forces over a large surface area. This design ensures a smooth transmission of torque during accelerations and when riding out of the saddle.
One of the rings is integrated into the hub's threaded ring, which reduces the number of components and the overall weight. The 36 teeth offer a 10-degree engagement angle, suitable for competitive road use.
This version comes with a Shimano Road 11-speed Light ASL11 freehub body fitted as standard. It allows for the installation of a Shimano road cassette compatible with this interface.
A SRAM XDR Road freehub body kit is also supplied by DT Swiss. The hub can thus be converted to accept a compatible SRAM XDR cassette without needing to purchase this body separately.
The wheel uses DT Aero Comp II T-Head spokes. Their aerodynamic profile is designed to limit the drag generated by the wheel's rotation, while maintaining the strength required for the stresses of a rear wheel.
The T-Head shape helps to stabilise the spoke at the hub and keep its profile correctly oriented to the airflow. This design also facilitates achieving a uniform tension during assembly.
The spokes are laced in a two-cross pattern with a 1:1 ratio. This architecture allows for the management of stresses produced by pedalling and disc braking.
The DT Pro Lock Hidden aluminium nipples are concealed inside the rim. This integration contributes to the wheel's clean aesthetic and limits aerodynamic disturbances.
The wheel is intended for bikes equipped with disc brakes. The hub uses the Center Lock standard, which ensures precise positioning of the disc and facilitates its installation with the appropriate tool.
The disc and its lockring are not listed among the supplied accessories. It is therefore necessary to choose a disc compatible with the bike's calipers and to check the type of lockring required.
The rear hub is compatible with the 12 x 142 mm standard, commonly used on modern road bikes equipped with disc brakes.
The thru-axle helps to position the wheel precisely in the frame and maintain a constant alignment between the disc and the caliper. The axle itself is usually supplied with the bike and not with the wheel.
The hub is compatible with the DT Swiss TRACKR SPEED DICUT sensor, available separately. It integrates directly into the hub to measure speed without needing a magnet or a sensor attached to a spoke.
This integration preserves the wheel's aesthetic and provides better protection for the sensor against impacts. The sensor is not included with this reference.
The rear wheel has a claimed weight of only 745 g. This figure is without a tyre, inner tube, cassette, or disc.
This low weight promotes responsiveness and limits the energy required to accelerate on climbs. It helps to make the ARC 1400 DICUT 38 the most mountain-oriented version of the ARC family.
The maximum authorised weight for the entire system is 110 kg. This value includes the cyclist, the bike, the equipment, and any luggage.
The wheel is classified as ASTM category 1. It is intended for use on paved roads and should not be used for demanding gravel, cyclocross, or off-road riding.
This reference corresponds to the rear wheel only. No tyre or inner tube is included. It should not be confused with the WTS version, which is supplied with a Continental GP5000 S TR 28 mm tyre and a TPU inner tube.
However, DT Swiss supplies the tubeless rim tape, the tubeless valve, a valve guard, and a SRAM XDR Road freehub body kit.
