CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

Corporate Responsibility (CR) is the sustainable management of a company’s core activities, anchored in its business strategy. It plays a key role in sustainable development in terms of employment, the market, communities, the environment and the supply chain.

Social, ecological and economic aspects are taken into account on an equal footing, and all stakeholders are involved in the strategic direction of the company’s CR activities.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND NATURE

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL COMMITMENT ON A NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SCALE

PRODUCTION CONDITIONS

MADE IN EUROPE” PRODUCTION SITES AS A PRODUCTION STRATEGY

The LOWA brand of mountain boots lives with nature, and that’s also its raison d’être. The company strives to preserve natural resources. If it can, it goes beyond regulatory obligations to protect the environment and the health of its employees and customers.

LOWA keeps a register of all the company’s environmental impacts at the Jetzendorf site and has analyzed their level of significance. This includes both direct environmental impacts resulting from the company’s activities (corporate ecology) and indirect environmental impacts not occurring on the company’s site (product ecology and CO2 emissions).

The Jetzendorf site is clear evidence of LOWA’s Bavarian roots. In addition to regional facilities and projects such as the TSV soccer club in Jetzendorf, the forest climbing park in Jetzendorf and local aid for refugees, LOWA develops other social and cultural projects on a national and international scale.

LOWA assumes responsibility for the entire production process and for the working conditions of employees involved in the manufacture and processing of LOWA products or in the stages prior to manufacture.

LOWA strives to ensure sustainable and responsible processes throughout the value chain. These include fair wages and working conditions, occupational safety and environmentally-friendly production.

LOWA considers its employees to be its most precious asset. The company promotes diversity and offers fair wages, social protection and individual support. Cooperation is the order of the day, and employees are personally convinced by our products.

The company has been headquartered in Upper Bavaria for almost a century, even though it has belonged to the Italian Tecnica Group since 1993. Whereas the company produced around 350,000 pairs of shoes a year in 1993, this figure has now risen to around 3 million pairs. More than anything else, LOWA’s employees are the key to this success – some 275 of them work at the head office.

LOWA offers a familiar environment with a flat organization. We’re always on first-name terms, and the door to the manager’s office is always open.

In this age of globalization, LOWA, as one of the industry leaders, relies on “Made in Europe” to guarantee top-quality products, decent wages and social protection for its employees.
By keeping production in Europe, LOWA ensures that its know-how and control over technology remain in its own hands. This also enables the company to meet much shorter delivery deadlines. Another essential point is that the company carries out continuous quality controls at every stage of production.
Preserving our technological know-how: Developing and manufacturing high-quality outdoor footwear is a complex process that requires a wealth of craftsmanship. Keeping our production in Europe means that we can always maintain close links with our research and development departments. For example, our Jetzendorf site is capable of creating a completely new prototype within a day.

Reduced emissions and transport costs: Because its production sites and main markets are all in Europe, LOWA is able to distribute its products more directly. In this way, the company reduces its emissions and makes significant savings on its transport costs.

Control of the value chain: European production enables LOWA to control the entire value chain. Since July 2019, almost 95% of production capacity has been provided by LOWA’s 100%-owned subsidiaries. As a result, LOWA has a real influence on the materials used, the production methods and the working conditions of its employees.
