To equip yourself properly for a triathlon, you need to take into account your level in the three disciplines. Some accessories are more essential than others for your race.

If you’re a beginner, you’ll need a neoprene wetsuit with a good degree of buoyancy. It will be a great help during the swimming part of the race, and will be compulsory in many races.

If you’re at an advanced level, you’ll have a choice of many additional triathlon accessories to save time during events or transitions.

We explain it all!

Triathlon and accessories: the essentials

1 – The GPS triathlon watch

The first essential accessory, increasingly popular with triathletes, is the GPS watch. It keeps you informed of your performance in real time. Whether you’re training or racing, opt for a multisport model, which will give you feedback on the 3 disciplines that make up a triathlon.

There are many models and brands with special functions. Find out in our article how to choose the right triathlon watch.

3 – Bib belt

In a triathlon you have 2 transitions, when you get out of the water, and when you put your bike down.
As in every competitive race, you’ll have a race number that you’ll need to make visible at all times (except during the swim).

This number must be visible on your back during the race. bike and visible from the front when running. To avoid the eternal problem of having to hang two safety pins on your jersey, you’ll need a bib holder.

This will have 3 attachment points (compulsory for competitions) and will enable you to wear your number easily by simply having to put it on like a belt before getting on your bike and changing its position at the start of the run.

A considerable time and energy saver!

Triathlon and accessories: nutrition and care

Nutrition

High-protein bars, energy gels, hydration drinks… Choosing your refreshments depends on individual taste and performance expectations. What’s more, energy gel is the most convenient format for eating without wasting time.

As with all your running gear, we advise you to test your nutrition during your training sessions to make sure your digestive system doesn’t fail you on the big day.

Je choisis ma nutrition

Good to know: would you like to test the gels on offer at the refreshment station before the big day? Nutrition brands are often listed on the race website. Otherwise, contact the organizer: they are used to being asked these questions.

The anti-friction cream

To avoid skin irritation and dryness caused by friction with clothing, spread some anti-friction cream on the neck for swimming, on the crotch for cycling, and on all friction-sensitive areas (buttocks, underarms, etc.) for running.
