The last event of the triathlon, the run, is of the utmost importance as it brings the event to a close. It’s comparable to a marathon in terms of the determination and endurance required, and calls for particular care when choosing your triathlon running shoes.

If your aim is to achieve an optimum time, the speed of the transitions between the different events is essential. So it’s crucial to select shoes that allow you to make these transitions as efficiently as possible. Fortunately, there are several technical solutions for optimizing your transitions and maximizing your performance in the last part of the triathlon.

Use a quick lacing system

Classic laces, although suitable for training, can be a problem in triathlon events. Not only do they waste precious time lacing shoes, but it’s also common for knots hastily tied during transition to come undone in the middle of a run.

Quick laces offer many advantages:

  • Quickly put on shoes without tying laces.
  • Efficient shoe support: certain types of quick-fit laces, such as those made from silicone, adapt to the shape of the foot, preventing over-compression while running.
  • Reduced risk of cramps due to uncomfortable lacing positions.
  • Significant time savings of 20 to 40 seconds in the transition between events.

Put on your running shoes barefoot

Whether you choose to run barefoot or in socks, applying baby powder to the inside of your shoes before you set off can prove beneficial. This makes it easier for the foot to glide through the shoe and limits humidity, improving comfort and reducing the risk of blisters or skin irritation during the run.

There are very few triathlon shoes to speak of. For the running event, a running shoe is definitely the way to go!
