The altimeter has an altitude range of 9,000m (29,500ft) so all 14 mountains over 8,000m are within reach of challenge-hungry climbers. The altimeter has an elevation measurement feature that allows you to track your vertical progress between stages. The watch also has a 24-hour automatic memory which records the altitude and speed of ascents and descents every 60 minutes. In addition, the watch has an altitude alarm and various memory functions. With the log function you can record the total and cumulative number of vertical ascents and descents as well as the number of descents performed on skis.
Suunto Vector displays the current barometric pressure and temperature; thanks to these functions, you can anticipate weather changes. Suunto Vector automatically records barometric data for the previous four days. During the first six hours, a recording is made every 60 minutes, after which a recording takes place every six hours. When the reference altitude is correct, the instrument also indicates pressure at sea level, making it easier for you to read and understand barometric pressures at high altitudes. However, when you are on a mountain excursion, remember that the barometric pressure changes as you go up. This makes it difficult to monitor weather trends.
Suunto Vector's electronic compass guides you using cardinal and semi-cardinal points as well as North-South segments. The compass can also be fixed to a precise bearing, which is handy when navigating in foreign terrain. The declination adjustment feature allows the user to correct the difference between true north and magnetic north.
