Review Summary

The best, friendliest service I've ever had in a bike shop. If you're in Paris and need something bike related, this has to be your go-to shop. I went there a few days ago after a long tour to get a repair done. Another shop wanted to charge me a lot of money for it because they said it was very complicated (it was a broken screw that was stuck/lodged in the bike frame). Instead, here at En Selle Marcel they not only fixed it in minutes, but were also super friendly and didn't even charge me at the end! I cannot recommend this shop enough!"

Good"

A team that really takes care of your bike, every time I go there I am very well received! And they are not short of good advice! Thanks again ! A pleasure to visit you every time!"

All the salespeople were patient and supported me well in purchasing my first bike. It was a great experience as a customer and I learned a lot. I highly recommend!"

This is my first time leaving a review online but I'm shocked and disappointed enough to make the effort. A few days ago I went to this store to inquire about the possibility of having my bike (a Brompton) cleaned. I was told that it cost €30 but that, after measuring the wear of the chain, it would probably be necessary to change it and that it would be a good idea to carry out a service. So my bike was dropped off yesterday: the estimated amount was around €120 and it was agreed that I would be called if significant additional expenses were envisaged. This evening, when picking up my bike, someone explained to me — obviously the current store manager — that my bike was very dirty (which was true, but visible the day I inquired as well as the evening before the maintenance ) and had to do a “plus plus” cleaning. Without saying anything more. I am a little embarrassed by the work this must have caused, thank him and apologize, sincerely explaining that I will come back more regularly from now on. When paying, the bill is around €200 — cf. photo. A little surprised, I ask for the detailed invoice and see that I was charged €60 for the cleaning, which I think is an error. It was then that they explained to me “that it was very dirty so…”. Finally: (1) the oral estimate that had been made of €120 was largely erroneous while it would have been easy to be more precise as soon as I came to make an appointment (2) it is, in my eyes, dishonest on the one hand to tell a customer before the deposit that the cleaning is billed at €30 and ultimately bill them at €60 [without even telling me at the time of payment!], as well as saying shortly before “I did a cleaning for you++” like synonymous with “finally I spent more time on it, I’ll charge you for a double cleaning”. (Which remains debatable but has the good taste of being clear.) So, in summary: I go into the store for a cleaning for 30€, they convince me (without difficulty, to be honest) to do a more in-depth maintenance for a hundred euros… and I get my bike back for 200€, almost double the initial estimate. (The price of a new low-end bike at Decathlon, even if the comparison is not perfectly relevant.) As explained to the person running the cash register, it is quite obvious that I will absolutely never set foot in this store again (where I went quite regularly - €500 spent on equipment and repairs before this one since their relatively recent opening) ."
