Shoes with 6 millimetre spikes are compulsory on tartan athletics tracks, regardless of the running distance. For the cross-country, the length of the spikes is variable. Our explanation:

How do you choose your athletic shoes?

- Choosing your sprint shoes (< 400 m): the sprint shoe has a full-length carbon plate, thin and curved, for maximum speed. This shoe is very light, like the Nike Zoom Rival and the New Balance USD 200.
- For middle-distance races (800 to 3000 m): the shoe has a less curved plate, has a small cushioning in the heel and is more moulded in the forefoot. Examples: the adidas adizero Ambition and the Brooks Wire.
- For long-distance runs (> 3000 m): the shoe has additional cushioning in the heel area. The Brooks Pro LD will meet your requirements perfectly.

How to choose your spikes?

The cross-country shoe is a very stable model that often has pimples in addition to spikes. The length of the tips varies from 15 to 6 millimetres, from the muddiest (15 mm) to the greasiest (12 mm) and versatile (9 mm - adidas XCS; 6 mm - New Balance XCS 700 and Brooks Mach).
